With a sleek, glossy coat and bright eyes, the Bombay cat breed resembles a miniature black panther. The Bombay cat was developed from the Burmese and exhibits the muscular body type and affectionate, temperament of the Burmese. The Bombay personality is lively, people-oriented and affectionate.

In the United States, the Bombay was created by crossing Burmese with black American Shorthairs in the 1950s, and in the UK it was developed by crossing Burmese with black domestic cats. Bombay kittens are always black. It was recognized for championship status by CFA in 1978.

In the UK, Bombays are classified as part of Asian group of cat breeds.

Associations: The Bombay cat breed is currently accepted by most associations. It is accepted as part of the Asian group in GCCF.
